WinterFest With HYPE

Tianna, Ashley and the WinterFest Elves

ChamberRVA’s HYPE hosted a networking happy hour at Kings Dominion’s WinterFest.

Our Astyra internal staff members were thrilled to spend the evening out and about with other young professionals. They enjoyed great food, fun rides and the holiday atmosphere complete with fake snow!

“It’s so amazing that HYPE holds events like this! It’s such a new, creative way to meet people,” Tianna said.

To assist ChamberRVA with their YRichmond initiative, we sent our internal employees as volunteers to university jobs fairs!

The goal of YRichmond is to encourage young professionals to live, work and play in Richmond. Our internal employees are perfect candidates for this since we all enjoy Richmond.

On the first career fair day, we sent Tianna and Shaila to the University of Richmond to present. The next volunteering event we sent David, Victor and Torin to ODU. The groups both had a great time meeting new faces and speaking about the joys of Richmond!

An Evening Under the Stars

This quarter, Astyra supported the 19th Annual Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) by attending their annual Gala. The organization themed the night “An Evening Under the Stars” and held it in February at the Dewey Gottwald Center in the Science Museum of Virginia.
Rhodes Ritenour, who serves with Ken and Sam on the ChamberRVA board served as the “Fund-A-Cure” Chair for the event. Thanks to generous donors and the hard work of Mr. Ritenour, the Gala raised over $613,000 for type 1 diabetes research!

Out & About in Minneapolis

Overlooking Minneapolis

Astyra founders Ken Ampy and Sam Young traveled to Minneapolis mid-April for an InterCity Visit (ICV) with the ChamberRVA board. Similar to previous visits in recent years to places such as Pittsburgh, Denver and Austin, they found the trip to Minneapolis very engaging and refreshing.

The InterCity Visit allows for leaders from the Richmond region to visit a peer city to hear about great initiatives and generate meaningful dialogue in the hopes of bringing about change in Richmond, VA.

These three-day agenda packed trips have directly resulted in many Richmond initiatives, businesses and programs being implemented. During the trip, attendees expand their knowledge on the chosen city’s community operations and determine if it is possible to mimic some of the ideas in Richmond.

Now on his 10th ICV, Ken chose the innovation track while Sam, on his 8th trip, chose the public housing track.

Developing Future Leaders

Lee Rattigan
Victor Rogers
Lee Rattigan and Victor Rogers recently attended courses held by the Chamber RVA.

Account Management Team Lead, Lee Rattigan participated in an RVA Leadership Lab from January to April of 2016. The program was put on by Chamber RVA and Luck Companies.

The focus of the class was primarily individual development.
Throughout the class he learned about making conscious choices by utilizing core values and personality styles. The small coaching groups focused on self-awareness, social awareness, and influence. The larger workshops were focused around local leaders, who would come in and discuss their story as it related to their individual growth. Lee said that the class was very beneficial and allowed him to continue his growth as a person and leader.
Recruiter, Victor Rogers is a graduate of the newest class of Mentor Richmond. During the duration of the Mentor Richmond program Victor had the opportunity to network with many of the brightest and youngest minds in the Greater Richmond business sector and learn from the premiere business leaders of the city.
Victor shared with Astyra that this was an invaluable experience, and the opportunity has since helped strengthen his professional network, increased his knowledge of resources in Richmond, and enhanced his professionalism immensely.

InterCity Visit In Nashville

Astyra owners, Sam Young and Ken Ampy, joined the Greater Richmond Chamber for the 23rd Annual InterCity Visit (ICV). This year the group visited Nashville, TN.

Participants of the InterCity Visit learned about the business community’s priorities for a strong education system, attracting and retaining talent, and the entrepreneurial community in Nashville.
