An Evening Under the Stars

This quarter, Astyra supported the 19th Annual Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) by attending their annual Gala. The organization themed the night “An Evening Under the Stars” and held it in February at the Dewey Gottwald Center in the Science Museum of Virginia.
Rhodes Ritenour, who serves with Ken and Sam on the ChamberRVA board served as the “Fund-A-Cure” Chair for the event. Thanks to generous donors and the hard work of Mr. Ritenour, the Gala raised over $613,000 for type 1 diabetes research!

Preventing Substance Abuse

Henrico Too Smart 2 Start (HTS2S) appointed our Operations Admin Executive Assistant, Tianna as their Volunteer Social Media Coordinator. With this position, Tianna will lead the communications team in creating a social media plan, assist with community events and design graphics.
The coalition focuses on reducing and preventing substance abuse in the Henrico youth population through education and advocacy. In addition to hosting informational events for parents, the organization also tailors events to youth such as a poetry slam with a theme related to the HTS2S mission.
Tianna is excited to help and cannot wait to see how the organization grows and develops throughout her time with them. Her first board and general body meeting is coming up next month!

Galentine’s Day

Astyra ladies enjoying lunch at TASTE
Astyra ladies love to spend time together and we all know Valentine’s Day is not complete without a quality meal with the girls. Eight of us decided to bond over a new-to-us lunch spot called TASTE.
TASTE first opened in Virginia Beach as a wine & cheese shop in 1973. Since then, it has grown to offer a variety of foods and desserts at its nine Virginia locations!
At lunch, we munched on various salads, sandwiches and chips while talking about our plans for the future.

Email Etiquette With Brittany

Brittany with VSU students

Our Human Resources Manager, Brittany, was invited to run a workshop at her alma mater by one of her former professors!

Although Brittany had many topics she wanted to go over, she focused on discussing email etiquette. She brought in print outs of her responses to real emails to give students an example of the professionalism used in corporate emails.

The workshop attendees listened carefully to her words and mentioned how much more prepared they feel to enter an office environment.

Brittany hopes for an invitation in the near future from Virginia State University to help with another workshop or event!
