  • Uses sophisticated programs to collect and evaluate operating data to conduct online adjustments to products, instruments, or equipment.
  • Determines and may assist in developing methods and procedures to control or modify the manufacturing process.
  • Works with engineers in conducting experiments.
  • Handling and managing fragile composite materials.
  • Bond, prep, and bonding of composite structures to metallic fittings.
  • Notate usage, traceability, pot life, and out time controls on all adhesive materials used.
  • Report data and interface with other employees and departments.
  • Tooling preparation and release application.
  • Utilize measurement tools such as calipers, rulers, and tape measures for fabricating hardware.
  • Reading and understanding manufacturing blueprints and shop planning
  • Assist in maintaining overall shop appearance and cleanliness.

Education:

  • High school diploma or GED and at least 2 years of additional education and/or related experience for this position.

 

Duration: 1-year contract position

  • Sets up and operates plain or universal, horizontal, or vertical milling machines to perform machining operations such as compound angles and contours
  • Boring compound angular holes; doing helical and spiral milling; serrating; and gear, spline, and keyway cutting to exacting tolerances.
  • Selects, mounts, and aligns various specialized machine attachments and standard or improvised tooling
  • Plans sequence of operations, number of cuts required, and method of setup
  • Determines, sets, and adjusts speeds, feeds, and depth of cut; interprets blueprints, sketches, and engineering specifications
  • Uses a variety of machinist hand tools and precision measuring instruments; makes standard shop computations; and measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points to lay out stock for machining.
  • May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical processes or other control procedures.
  • Requires completion of a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience.
  • Exclude general, all-around machinists and operators who do not perform their own setups or determine the sequence of operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Fabricates and assembles semi complex tubing components for aerospace vehicles, according to specifications, using hand tools, power tools, rotary draw to bending machines (semi-automatic automatic and CNC), equipment, measuring instruments, and measuring systems
  • Performs work with limited direction on new assignments
  • Fabricate tubing assemblies to work orders, drawings and specifications, in an accurate and timely manner
  • Set up, operate and maintain all equipment used in the fabrication of tubing assemblies
  • Select mandrel and dye sets as specified by material size and wall thickness
  • Check tube geometry using roamer measuring arm
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Set up and operate tube cutting equipment
  • Removes burs sharp edges or scale from workpiece
  • Flare tube ends according to specification and size
  • Ensure safety standards are maintained
  • Swage fitting installation
  • Pressure test

Are you ready to put your experience to work? If so, our Aeronautics Systems sector is currently seeking Composite Laminator 1 based in El Segundo, CA. This role is for a hands-on person with great attention to detail, top focus on quality, and excellent people skills

Job Functions:

  • Fabricate composite parts, which may include bonding prep, tool prep, ply kit generation, lamination, vacuum bagging, de-molding, trimming, and part handling
  • Handle perishable materials, paying close attention to expiration dates, out time life, and traceability information
  • Follows all planning, visual aids, and process work instructions.
  • These instructions, in combination with part-specific tooling, are used to fabricate composite parts and bonded assemblies.
  • Operate handheld tools. (e.g.) Scissors, razor knives, grinders, drills, sanders, cutting wheels, etc.
  • Excels in a team environment, supports other departments, or completes other duties as necessary
  • Work in both FOE-critical and FOE-sensitive environments and observe all related safety procedures
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment

Basic Qualification:

  • High School Diploma or GED and 1 year of composite manufacturing/fabrication experience or approved composites certificate program.
  • Basic computer skills, proficiency in Microsoft applications
  • Must be able to perform moderately strenuous physical and repetitious work including bending, stooping, kneeling, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work flexible/changing schedules including weekends.
  • Ability to work in El Segundo, CA

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Composite fabrication experience in an aerospace, military, manufacturing, and/or maintenance environment
  • Demonstrated mechanical ability and ability to work under limited supervision
  • Be able to operate autoclave and curing ovens
