Astyra is seeking a Senior Network Engineer to support the day-to-day operations of a large-scale global network environment supporting mission-critical applications. This position is part of a 24/7 Network Operations team responsible for real-time network monitoring, troubleshooting, incident response, and coordination with internal engineering teams and external network providers.
This is an operations-focused position rather than a network architecture or design role. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in a Network Operations Center (NOC) or similar production environment supporting Cisco-based networks.
Responsibilities
- Monitor a global network environment for performance degradation, connectivity issues, circuit outages, congestion, system events, and alerts.
- Troubleshoot Layer 1–3 network issues, including BGP, VPN, and circuit-related connectivity issues.
- Prioritize and manage multiple concurrent network incidents based on severity and business impact.
- Manage incidents from identification through resolution, including ticketing, documentation, escalation, and status updates.
- Coordinate with ISPs, MSPs, carriers, vendors, and internal engineering teams to resolve network issues.
- Navigate and troubleshoot Cisco network devices using SecureCRT and other network monitoring and diagnostic tools.
- Follow established SOPs, escalation processes, and network documentation.
- Perform basic network changes as needed within established procedures.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
- 3–5 years of network operations, NOC, or related hands-on network engineering experience.
- Strong experience supporting Cisco network environments and using SecureCRT.
- Knowledge of enterprise networking concepts, including BGP, VPNs, network circuits, and Layer 1–3 troubleshooting.
- Experience working with ISPs, carriers, MSPs, or other network vendors.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple network incidents in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently while following established procedures and technical documentation.
Preferred Qualifications
- CCNA certification.
- Experience with Riverbed, SolarWinds, Splunk, or similar network monitoring tools.
- Exposure to Ansible, scripting, network automation, or AI-enabled automation tools.
Schedule
This is a fully remote, second-shift position working approximately 2:00 PM–11:00 PM ET and includes regular weekend coverage. The anticipated schedule will be either Saturday–Wednesday or Wednesday–Sunday.
Initial training will take place for approximately three weeks on first shift, Monday–Friday from approximately 6:00 AM–3:00 PM ET.
