Senior Java Developer/Programmer

Description
This position provides advanced Java development support for an environmental information system and the ongoing migration to a new information exchange system.
The Java Developer will serve as a key technical contributor responsible for operational support of the existing application while advancing development and integration work required for the migration.
Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day operational support for the application, including troubleshooting, defect resolution, and performance monitoring.
- Support and contribute to the technical migration effort, including data conversion, application redevelopment, and system integration activities.
- Design, develop, modify, and maintain Java-based application code in accordance with established standards and project requirements.
- Develop, consume, and modify APIs to support integration between the existing application, the new system, and related external systems.
- Write, optimize, and troubleshoot advanced Oracle database queries, procedures, and data structures supporting application functionality.
- Collaborate with project stakeholders and technical leads to ensure continuity of operations and successful delivery of migration milestones.
- Document technical processes, system changes, and development activities to support knowledge transfer and continuity.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues across the application stack using strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Skills/Knowledge/Experience:
- Advanced Java development skills with demonstrated experience building and maintaining enterprise-level applications.
- Advanced Oracle database skills, including query development, optimization, and data management.
- Experience with API utilization, creation, and modification to support system integration.
Preferred Skills/Knowledge/Experience:
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools, such as GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, or Claude, to support and accelerate development activities.
- Experience with dashboard development using tools such as Power BI or Tableau.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
Required Skills/Knowledge/Experience:
- Proven experience designing, building, and maintaining enterprise-level Java applications — Required: 5 Year
- Expertise in complex query development, performance tuning, and data structure design — Required: 5 Year
- Experience creating, consuming, and modifying APIs to support system-to-system integration — Required: 5 Years
- Experience migrating legacy applications to new platforms, including data conversion and system cutover planning — Required: 5 Years
- Ability to work across requirements, design, development, testing, and deployment phases — Required: 5 Years
- Experience providing operational support for live systems, including defect diagnosis and resolution under time constraints — Required: 5 Years

This role supports a critical information system and requires the ability to work independently on both operational support and active migration and development efforts. The position requires close coordination with the broader project team to maintain continuity of operations while advancing development goals.
