Entry Level System Protection Technician

Description:

  • This entry-level role is part of our client’s System Protection Development Program.
  • You’ll learn how protection and control systems operate in field facilities while working closely with experienced technicians.
  • The position is designed for candidates with little to no experience who are interested in building a career in electrical or protection systems.
  • You’ll receive hands-on training in installing, testing, maintaining, and troubleshooting protective relays, communication systems, and related equipment. Over time, you’ll gain confidence and independence as your skills grow.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with senior technicians to learn system protection tasks
  • Assist with installing, testing, and maintaining protection and control equipment
  • Participate in pre-job safety briefings and follow all safety procedures
  • Help verify equipment operation, alarms, and communications
  • Support routine inspections, cleaning, and maintenance of relays and devices
  • Complete required documentation and compliance paperwork
  • Follow cybersecurity and company standards
  • Coordinate with team members during construction and maintenance activities
  • Work safely around electrical equipment and in outdoor environments

Required Skills/Knowledge/Experience:

  • 0–1 year of relevant experience or training
  • Basic understanding of electrical or substation equipment (training provided)
  • Ability to use basic tools such as a multimeter
  • Willingness to learn how to read diagrams, drawings, and equipment labels
  • Strong communication, organization, and teamwork skills
  • Self-motivated with a focus on safety

Education Requirements
One of the following is required:

  • Associate’s degree or advanced post-secondary diploma (completed or in progress by Spring 2026) in a related field such as:
  • Electrical, Electronics, Electromechanical, Mechanical, Instrumentation, or Mechatronics Technology

OR qualifying U.S. military experience, including:

  • 5 years of service with at least 1 year of technical training in electrical theory, circuits, and equipment use

Physical & Work Requirements:

  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Due to equipment weight limits, individuals in this role have a weight restriction of 290 pounds.
  • Must live within approximately one hour of the assigned work location
  • Work is primarily outdoors and around operating equipment
  • Exposure to heat, cold, and varying weather conditions
  • Travel up to 25%
