Azure Cloud Engineer – Tolling Operations

Description
Seeking an Azure Cloud Engineer to join the Engineering and Operations team. This role involves Azure cloud engineering, application support, and rotational helpdesk support.
The selected candidate will implement, maintain, and support cloud resources within the Azure environment, collaborating with architects, developers, database administrators (DBAs), engineers, and management to ensure secure, efficient, and optimized use of Azure services.
Key technologies include Azure App Services, API Gateways, Function Apps, Azure Virtual Desktops (AVD), Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), Application Insights, Office 365, and Power Apps.
Responsibilities
- Cloud Operations and Engineering
- Implement, maintain, and support Azure cloud resources and infrastructure.
- Ensure compliance with security policies, identity and access management (IAM), network controls, and cloud cost governance.
- Maintain infrastructure documentation, naming conventions, tagging standards, and cloud governance artifacts.
- Assist with access reviews, role assignments, and least-privilege IAM evaluations.
- Manage vendor-required updates and verify system compatibility.
- Implement fault-tolerant, highly available Azure solutions.
- Provide best-practice guidance for SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS environments.
- Monitoring, Troubleshooting, and Diagnostics
- Monitor Azure services and application workloads to maintain uptime and availability.
- Troubleshoot connectivity, access, security, application performance, and service degradation issues.
- Perform diagnostic analysis using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, logs, metrics, and traces.
- Analyze and optimize system and application performance.
- Monitor application health using Application Insights and related Azure services.
Operational Support
- Participate in daily and weekly operational activities, including monitoring, incident reviews, and maintenance readiness checks.
- Triage production issues, coordinate timely resolution, and document root causes.
- Participate in rotational helpdesk support and provide application support.
- Perform after-hours work as required.
- Develop change requests, detailed implementation plans, and rollback procedures.
Technical Development and Compliance
- Understand end-to-end data flows across tolling systems, roadway infrastructure, financial transactions, and reporting tools.
- Support integration improvements and data movement optimization.
- Apply PCI and other regulatory compliance requirements when evaluating system behavior, security, and logging.
- Manage Azure Key Vault, secrets, passwords, certificates, and secure credential storage.
- Support identity management, Single Sign-On (SSO), and Microsoft Entra ID administration.
- Assist with infrastructure automation and configuration management.
- Support containerized applications and cloud-native solutions.
Collaboration and Communication
- Collaborate with architects, engineers, managers, and cross-functional teams to optimize Azure services.
- Communicate technical requirements, design concepts, and recommendations clearly.
- Maintain effective written and verbal communication with internal and external stakeholders.
- Support multiple concurrent projects with complex technical requirements.
- Create and maintain network diagrams, system topology documentation, and technical procedures.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of experience with Microsoft Azure services.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Experience working in Microsoft Windows environments.
- Experience administering Office 365 services and Power Apps.
- Experience administering Single Sign-On (SSO) and Microsoft Entra ID.
- Strong scripting skills using PowerShell and/or Python.
- Ability to create network diagrams and system topology documentation.
- Experience with Azure Virtual Desktops (AVD).
- Understanding of cloud security, networking, infrastructure, and governance.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Azure certification preferred, such as AZ-104, AZ-305, or equivalent.
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Experience
- Microsoft Windows environments (2019 or later): Required, 2 years.
- Server infrastructure, protocols, firewalls, certificates, and load balancers: Required, 2 years.
- Microsoft Azure administration and engineering: Required, 3 years.
- Networking, server administration (Windows/Linux), databases, and cloud environments: Required, 2 years.
- Scripting with PowerShell and/or Python: Required, 2 years.
- Office 365 and Power Apps platforms: Required, 1 year.
- Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or equivalent): Required, 1 year.
- PCI or similar compliance frameworks: Required, 1 year.
- Single Sign-On (SSO) and identity administration using Entra ID: Required, 1 year.
- Continuous integration tools (Azure DevOps, Jenkins, Git, or TFS): Desired, 1 year.
- Containerization technologies (Docker and Kubernetes): Desired, 1 year.
- Key Vault, secrets, and certificate management: Desired, 1 year.
- Azure certification (AZ-104, AZ-305, or similar): Desired.
- Enterprise governance models: Desired, 1 year.
- Cloud cost analysis and cost-optimization recommendations: Desired, 1 year.
- Azure Virtual Desktops (AVD): Desired, 1 year.
