What’s in a name?
Astyra is a coastal Greek town conquered by Alexander the Great. Alexander needed a standard unit of monetary exchange to connect his vast empire and outsourced the creation of the bronze and silver coins to the people of Astyra. These coins are rare and well-made. The name represented what we do at Astyra: outsource business and technology experts.
Today, one of those coins hangs in the Astyra office located in Richmond, VA. Astyra staff members found, purchased, and presented the coin to the founders Ken and Sam!

Monarchs With a Future
Ken and Sam first crossed paths as freshmen at Old Dominion University, where a shared passion for technology and big ideas sparked an instant connection. Their friendship quickly grew, and they soon became roommates—spending countless late nights discussing their goals, dreams, and the future. It was during those conversations that the foundation for a business was laid, as they envisioned launching their own IT firm after graduation. What began as an ambitious idea between two college friends has since grown into a thriving business built on innovation, integrity, and partnership.

Where It All Began
Ken and Sam launched their first business with just a $400 investment—$200 of which came from Sam’s dad. That modest contribution was the spark that set their entrepreneurial journey in motion, showing that even the smallest investments can lead to big opportunities. This humble beginning set the stage for a remarkable journey of innovation and growth in the tech industry.

As times evolved, so did their vision. What began as Automation Concepts—a small IT support business—grew and adapted with the changing landscape. Embracing new opportunities and responding to industry demands, the company transformed into a dynamic staffing firm.
