GIS Specialist – ArcGIS Administration
*This is a 1-year contract position
*Remote – Local to Raleigh, North Carolina (Triangle Region)
*The candidate will need to come on-site on the first day to collect equipment.
Description
The GIS Specialist will provide standard GIS support services, including analysis and data processing, as well as support for the ArcGIS platform in user management, data management, metadata creation, and customer interaction.
The contractor will assist users in creating and maintaining GIS projects, including dashboards and web applications. The role will also support accessibility compliance for published GIS content in accordance with applicable ADA requirements and WCAG standards. The contractor will assist with auditing, monitoring, and documenting GIS platform usage to ensure users follow established security policies and procedures.
The ideal candidate will have strong communication and customer service skills, with the ability to support both GIS and non-GIS users and independently troubleshoot applications. Candidates should have experience with ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Enterprise administration, ArcGIS Pro, and knowledge of Python and/or SQL. They should be able to manage projects from initial requirements gathering through final customer acceptance and have experience publishing hosted and referenced services on federated and unfederated GIS servers.
Responsibilities
- Participate in accessibility initiatives to audit GIS applications and implement WCAG-aligned updates that improve usability for individuals with disabilities.
- Design and develop experience builder applications tailored to business workflows and accessibility requirements.
- Maintain and administer an ArcGIS Online environment supporting approximately 4,500 users.
- Manage user accounts, groups, permissions, and access controls.
- Develop user guides, technical documentation, and training materials to support platform adoption.
- Publish hosted and referenced map image and feature services across ArcGIS Enterprise and ArcGIS Online environments.
- Gather project requirements and consult with business units to identify appropriate GIS tools and capabilities.
- Assist users with creating, maintaining, and publishing GIS content, dashboards, and web applications.
- Ensure GIS applications and published content comply with accessibility standards and security policies.
- Troubleshoot application issues and provide technical support to platform users.
