Service Center Assistant Manager
Salary Range: $106,000 – $146,000
Shift: Varies

Position Summary
Astyra is recruiting for an Assistant Service Center Manager on behalf of our client in the transportation and freight industry. This leadership role supports the Service Center Manager in overseeing day-to-day operations, managing operational performance, and leading operations managers and supervisors.

The position works closely with the Service Center management team to improve productivity, service, and quality results while supporting employee development and customer relationships. The Assistant Service Center Manager also helps manage and grow a portfolio of business customers within the assigned market.

What We’re Looking For
We are looking for an experienced, hands-on operations leader who can manage people, analyze performance, solve operational challenges, and maintain strong customer relationships.

The ideal candidate is comfortable balancing operational leadership with employee development and customer needs in a fast-paced environment. Previous freight industry and management experience is strongly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Service Center Manager in overseeing day-to-day service center operations.
  • Review operational performance, staffing, driver, and route plans to ensure resources are aligned with business needs.
  • Analyze planned versus actual performance to identify service issues, root causes, and opportunities for operational improvement.
  • Monitor dock operations and support adherence to established freight handling and operating procedures.
  • Lead and develop operations managers and supervisors while supporting staffing, performance management, training, and career development.
  • Work with Human Resources and management on hiring, employee performance, and promotion decisions.
  • Manage customer relationships, address service issues, and help retain and grow existing business.
  • Monitor service performance, including on-time deliveries, missed pickups, and claims, and work with the team to improve results.
  • Participate in customer and sales activities to understand customer needs and provide operational expertise.
  • Support business development activities, including identifying opportunities, understanding customer needs, and supporting proposals and service presentations.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Previous management or supervisory experience.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to effectively lead teams and manage multiple operational priorities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to travel as needed.
  • Ability to meet applicable requirements to operate a vehicle.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.
  • Must currently reside in the geographic area of the position or be willing to self-relocate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous management experience in the freight, transportation, logistics, distribution, or a similar operational environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
