Senior Telecommunications Technician

Description:

  • Maintain accurate records of installations, configurations, repairs, and maintenance activities.
  • Ensure all work complies with telecommunications regulations and standards.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to users, often involving customer service during field visits.
  • Installing and wiring routers/switches, coordinating for configuration and troubleshooting.
  • Install and provision of transport equipment and Ethernet services supporting the MPLS network.
  • Electrical/Electronic background and SCADA knowledge are a plus.
  • Testing, deployment, and documentation supporting system upgrades, patches, and maintenance window activities.
  • Respond to system and service outages as well as storm/disaster support.
  • Participate in maintenance window cutovers and system grooms.
  • Installation and wiring of routers/switches, along with coordination with multiple groups for configuration and troubleshooting.
  • Effectively identify and utilize the proper resources to develop solutions and devise new approaches to problems encountered in work assignments.

Responsibilities:

  • These describe what the technician will be expected to do as part of the job:
  • Travel 51–75%.
  • Outdoor work up to 25%.
  • Office work up to 25%.
  • May require some travel with overnight stays and additional hours, holiday, and/or weekend work for project completion or to meet deadlines (based on project needs).
  • Exposure to cold, heat, loud noise, and energized wires up to 25%.
  • Prioritize safety, environmental consciousness, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to keep work sites clean and organized.

Skills / Knowledge / Experience:

  • Working knowledge of fiber circuits, MPLS, and other LAN/WAN data circuits.
  • Skilled in the termination and troubleshooting of various cabling types, including fiber.
  • Knowledge of fiber terminations, data circuits, 48V, and 135Vdc power plants.
  • Experience with DC plant systems, LAN and wireless testing, fiber optic test equipment, and various cabling types.
  • Familiarity with cable identification, terminating cables, and Channel Banks.

Top Must-Have Skill Sets:

  • SolarWinds – NPM and NCM.
  • Experience with Nokia and Ciena transport equipment
  • Commissioning and troubleshooting DWDM systems.

Soft Skills:

  • Strong communication skills and ability to work independently.
  • Self-starter with a focus on safe work habits and behaviors.

Education:

  • High School diploma or G.E.D. required.
  • An associate degree and 3 years of related work experience or military experience with 5 years of related experience may be accepted.
